Check compatibility
You can upgrade to macOS Sierra from OS X Lion or later on any of the following Mac models. Your Mac also needs at least 2GB of memory and 8.8GB of available storage space.
MacBook introduced in late 2009 or later
MacBook Air introduced in late 2010 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later
Mac mini introduced in mid 2010 or later
iMac introduced in late 2009 or later
Mac Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later
To find your Mac model, memory, storage space, and macOS version, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu . If your Mac isn't compatible with macOS Sierra, the installer will let you know.
- Click on the Mac icon to begin download. Wait until the download completes, and then open it (the exact procedure varies a bit per browser). Open the ‘OpenVPN Connect installer' to start the installation.

Make a backup
This guide has been written for MacOS 10.12 (Sierra). It is possible that the images for other versions of MacOS are slightly different, but the steps are nearly identical. Separate manuals are available for Windows, Android, iPhone, iPad, Ubuntu. To use Tunnelblick you need access to a VPN server: your computer is one end of the tunnel and the VPN server is the other end. For more information, see Getting VPN Service. Get connected
It takes time to download and install macOS, so make sure that you have a reliable Internet connection. If you're using a Mac notebook computer, plug it into AC power.
Download macOS Sierra
For the strongest security and latest features, find out whether you can upgrade to macOS Catalina, the latest version of the Mac operating system.
If you still need macOS Sierra, use this link: Download macOS Sierra. A file named InstallOS.dmg will download to your Mac.
Install the macOS installer
Double-click the downloaded file to open a window showing its contents. Then double-click the file within, named InstallOS.pkg.
Follow the onscreen instructions, which will guide you through the steps necessary to install.
Begin installation
After installation of the installer is complete, open the Applications folder on your Mac, then double-click the file named Install macOS Sierra. Free anti-malware for mac download.
Click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions. You might find it easiest to begin installation in the evening so that it can complete overnight, if needed.
Allow installation to complete
Please allow installation to complete without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. Your Mac might restart, show a progress bar, or show a blank screen several times as it installs both macOS and related updates to your Mac firmware.

- If you have hardware or software that isn't compatible with macOS Sierra, you might be able to install the previous version, OS X El Capitan.

In this case, that involves setting up a VPN connection to the University of Twente, so that you will acquire an IP address starting with 130.89, even if your Internet Service Provider is not the same as that of the University of Twente. With this VPN connection you will get both an IPv4 and IPv6 UT address. All network traffic from your device will go through the network of the University of Twente.

Download these files:
- Open the .dmg installation file.
- Double click Tunnelblick.

Make a connection
STEP 1: CHOOSE CONNECTION
- Click the icon in the menu bar (right top of your screen).
- Click the connection connect vpn_utwente_nl_tap.
STEP 2: USER CREDENTIALS
- At Username, enter your UT e-mail address.
- Enter your password.
- Click OK.
You are connected once the screen indicates Connected and the icon is a bright tunnel. When using MacOS High Sierra 10.13 there will probably be an error, see step 3.
STEP 3: SECURITY & PRIVACY PREFERENCES (ONLY FOR MAC OS 10.13)
When trying to connect in MacOS High Sierra 10.13 the following error appears.
To fix this error follow the following steps.

- go to Security & Privacy
- Click on Allow at the bottom of the tab General.
